Poems

Time Joyce Grenfell
When I was a girl there was always time,There was always time to spare. There was always time to sit in the sun;And we were never doneWith lazing and flirting,And doing our embroidery,And keeping up our memory books,And brushing our hair,And writing little notes,And going on picnics,And dancing, dancing, dancing, dancing--When I was a girl there was always time to waste.Thank the Lord. When I was a young woman there was always time,There was always time to spare. There was always time to walk in the sun,And we were never doneWith going to weddings,Our own and our friends',And going to parties,Away at weekends,And having our childrenAnd bringing them up,And talking, talking, talking, talking--When I was a young woman there was always time to enjoy things.Thank the Lord. And when I was an elderly woman there was no more time,There was no more time to spare. There was no more time to sit in the sun,For we were never doneWith answering the telephone,And looking at the TV,And doing baby-sitting,And talking to our friends,And shopping, shopping, shopping, shopping,And washing-up, washing-up, washing-up,Writing letters, writing lettersRushing, Rushing, rushing,And we were always hurried,And we were never bored. When I was an elderly womanThere was never time to think.Thank the Lord. But now I'm an old old woman,So I want the last word:There is no such thing as time--Only this very minuteAnd I'm in it.Thank the Lord.

Poems

Clouds Gregory Djanikian
It was a test on clouds, Science I, Seventh grade, Mrs. Snyder, who, I remember, always wore dark colors. My fingers trembled, I couldn't keep A point on my pencil, and in the next row, John Carlson was getting all the answers. Cumulus, altostratus, cirrus. What was I dreaming of? Clouds. They reminded me of Iowa or Kansas, Or my notion of them, expanses of wheat, Big skies somewhere west of where I was, Somewhere with rural addresses, dogs Named "Blue" or "Jake," and railroad crossings, And a boy's river lazing through farm and pasture. Cirrus fibratus, cirrus uncinus, Altocumulus, cumulus congestus I was losing time, my answer sheet Was white as a cloud, and there was A scratching of pencils on paper. What was I after? Summer. A hillside. A cumulus sky driven by the breezes. Kites, and kite string humming in the air. Shouts, laughter, in the distance only. Cumulus humilis, cumulus fractus Time was up and we were let go And I reeled out to the playground lightened. There was the bluest sky and I saw Fibrous wisps converging into grey. "Cirrus spissatus," John Carlson announced From behind me, maybe to himself, And skipped away at ease with the world. All the way home, I spat out those names I'd learned one by one, cirrostratus nebulosus, Altocumulus undulatus, cirrocumulus, cumulonimbus, Until I was left with just "clouds," Something vague and inexact, but prevailing, Like some notion of happiness, Or longings without name.
I think it is wonderful feelings, ‘longings without name’.

Poems

The Snow Man Louis Mac Neice
His memory was shaped by forgetting Into a snowman, handful by handful; In the end two pebbles for eyes and a cherry wood Pipe clamped in the thin lipped mouth. But was this fellow really his past,This white dummy in a white waste? While the censor works, while the frost holds,Perhaps he will pass--but then he will pass. Yesterday was a dance of flakes Waltzing down, around, and up,But today is lull and smudge, today Is a man with a pipe that will not draw. Today is a legless day with head-on Idiot eyes, a stranded deaf Mute in a muted world. This lump Is what he remembered when he forgot, Already beginning to dribble. Tomorrow Comes the complete forgetting, the thaw.Or is it rather a dance of water To replace, relive, that dance of white?

To forget my memories, and that is existence of snow man. Then the existence of human.

Delight in Disorder Robert Herrick
A sweet disorder in the dress Kindles in clothes a wantonness : A lawn about the shoulders thrown Into a fine distraction :An erring lace which here and there Enthrals the crimson stomacher : A cuff neglectful, and thereby Ribbons to flow confusedly : A winning wave (deserving note) In the tempestuous petticoat :A careless shoe-string, in whose tieI see a wild civility :Do more bewitch me than when art Is too precise in every part.

In the room at duskA story about a man ,Getting close to the age of having nothing except thinking. The sky,Reflected by the setting sun,Now seen,From the window frame.A golden light there. He begins to think ,At the time when Summer is over. Now thinking of how to release something. After being released, then how to fill in.At first, turn or loosen it being fastened firmly. There is something important besides the procedure. It calls the sense of time.Feels like getting what it is,Immediately. But, my hands cannot function properly. How come?Power and breathing.Eyes focused on from the garden to outdoors,Where purple flowers and wild peonies are blooming. The head of a flower is swaying. The man who saw one piece of a petal falling down."Fed up with everything.",He said to himself,In an almost inaudible voice. It's fading away.Near his hands,Something fastened,To be released. The above-mentioned is just a prelude of this story. After being released,The edge should be raised. After being fastened,It should be kept for a long time. How could it be done? The other day,The man, holding up an umbrella,Walking on the path along the beach.Regretting to have already come out on foot.Rain and wind became stronger. How come in this case? What I have to fasten,Is an umbrella. At first fasten my wrist,And then, turn my feelings toward where?Toward my hands rather than feet.Noticed clearly the rain shower falling heavily.A car came,With head lights on.Holding up and waving the umbrella,Let me enter it.When the door was opened,One young girl was holding the handle."What a terrible day it is!" "I have a wife and a child.", The man said. "And a job, too. I happened to encounter you here." "The sea is stormy, isn't it?"This has been passed through."Everything has been passed through", Murmuring to himself, and fastened it on his memory."That is a lever." The man who let that lever slip down near his hands.Well, this man opened the white paper,In the room at dusk,Fed up with thinking,And drew pictures of big plus and minus screws.Suddenly it became dark in the room,And nobody knows what is fastened by drawn screws. Dusk stays. In my room where my wife and child are away, Only the sound of tearing silk, Creeping on my skin.

To a Friend Jean Valentine
I cannot give you much or ask you much. Though I shore myself up until we meet, The words we say are public as the street: Your body is walled up against my touch. Our ghosts bob and hug in the air where we meet, My reason hinges on arcs you draw complete, And yet you are walled up against my touch. Your love for me is, in its way, complete, Like alabaster apples angels eat, But since it is in this world that we meet I cannot give you much or ask you much. You go your way, I mine, and when we meet, Both half-distracted by the smells of the street, Your body is walled up against my touch. My body sings at your table, waits on the street And you pass empty-handed, till when we meet I have been so far, so deep, so cold, so much, My hands, my eyes, my tongue are like bark to the touch.

MR 2-01: Mrs. Doubtfire is funny

This movie is “Mrs. Doubt fire”. I’ve never watched this movie but many friends have ever watched this one. Love for children, a figure working as a housekeeping and so on are appeared in this movie. I think this movie has many good points. First, I will write little this movie’s content. Then, I will write 2 good points for me in this movie.

First, an animated cartoon voice artist, Daniel, was given a sentence of a divorce at last because he rely entirely on his spouse's earnings and had to get out home. But he was a lover of children, so he thought that he would dress himself as a woman and enter their home as a housekeeper. He asked a make - up artist’s brother and changed himself into an elderly woman. He became “Mrs. Doubt fire”. His children took to her without knowing that she was their father.

Next, I will tell you about first good points. It’s his love for children. He really loves his children. He can’t stand that he can see his children only once a week. He is optimistic by nature, so he has many bold plans and doesn’t worry about what other people think. I’m sure that he could understand children’s feelings and actives because he is optimistic and does never forget his feelings that he was a child. In short, he likes children very much because he is just like a child. I think a person like him likes children but the person may not like adult. We can find the different between children and adult.

Then, I will tell you about second good points. It’s a figure he or she is working as a housekeeping. These scenes are felt like comedy drama. I couldn’t help laughing some scenes which he is cooking or do other keeping house. Though he is cooking seriously but it is for him awkwardly, I laughed. His life changes completely because of divorce. Then he chooses a way of a housekeeping and must do housework. It is many works which he doesn’t usually do. I love these scenes very much though the content is so important. It is wonderful that the main content has both profound fact and humor, I think. Bringing humor is a big point and a good point.

A family in this movie is different from my family. Each family has each life and hold the life. A various of form of their lives are so many men, so many minds. It may be a good think that you watch other people’s lives. They have worries and happiness of every kind. They live as they overcome the both. I want to live without regretting.

This movie has many themes and deep contains. I think this movie can find many things from many points of view. They are family, divorce, housekeeping, children, smile, love, sense of humor, disguise and so on. We can think as we like by ourselves. Then you can compare with your life.

A Room Without Walls

Looking from there, I saw a yellow cliff far away
and the sea and white waves.
As I was human
I Ionged for other humans
and kept on looking
without blinking.
There was the sun
and there were rocks.
There were a few trees,
but the only creature there was me.
It was a private room without walls.
All I did was just stand or lie on the ground.
Madly I imagined
that I had a woman there beside me,
making her bear children
and building a family.

Luster on the Walls

Inside the stone windows, the floor was stone.
The table on the stone floor was stone.
The bed on the stone floor was stone.
The pillow was stone.
The tableware was stone.
There was no knob on the door.
There was no burial ground.
All the stone was black and lustrous.
The woman did not go out of the stone house.
The man was waiting for another man.
The men indulged themselves in pleasure, holding each other.
The woman was embraced only until she gave birth to a child.
The child the woman held in her arms was hungry and cried all the time.
Crying thus all the while, children grew to be men and women.
They never ceased to be, for several thousand years, there in the black stone.

In the Wall

A man was walking along a wall
a crazy wal!
There was a long crack in it
So he pered through and saw two bodies moving
in the far corner ofthe large white field

They Iooked warm
Were they trying to kill each other?
The one lifting its arms
and sticking out its chest
seemed to be a woman
Was she in ecstasy?
The one knocked down
secmed to be a woman
The large white foreground
melted the bodies dazzlingly
There was a flash of light
The man left the crack
and heard a violent crash ofthunder
Was that the end or the beginning?

Poems

Naturally Thinking
I shall fade out.
It arrives at my consciousness as a certain matter.
However when I say 'death', the meaning of the word
turns to be vague.
I surely shall die, though I do not take in dying as it is
suggested in general.
I find something different in it.
When a living man talks about death,
he insists on existence too much.
I dislike it.
I watched a tiny clod of cigarette ash, rolling on a floor.
I watched the ash, rolling on the film made and shot by Daisuke Nose.
I like 16mm film titled 'Everyday Life' with scenes of adored ash.
I talk about the film whenever I meet someone.
Facial expressions of people show that they do not understand
what I mean.
"Making 16mm film costs much. To complete one-minute-long
shot costs five thousand yen. I have to work five and a half
hours for making this-long shot, since I get nine hundred and twenty
yen per hour from my part-time job."
Narrating, Nose turns on a faucet in his movie to have water
run down.
He catches water into a ladle, shooting expanding water fringe.
He repeats shooting.
Gratuitousness is being realized.
I am moved.
Nose shoots a rubber band to a string-shaped dirt on a ceiling.
He spreads out aluminium one-yen coins one by one on the floor.
After he finished covering the floor fully with coins,
light of day and night travels.
He plays with the tiny clod of a cigarette by rolling it on the floor.
On the film, gratuitousness is being accumulated.
Nose talks about 'Everyday Life' modestly.
"My daily life is supported by a key phrase 'for the time being'
as my turning point, which is almost equivalent to Copernican
change of sphere."
Yes, we live for the time being.
My emotion is touched deeply.
I borrowed the film from Nose and converted it into video tape.
I watch his video-taped movie again and again.
My act is not comprehended by Nose.
I press a button of a video deck to switch off.
Not as a metaphor but an act.
My fingertip for pressing.
The electric current being shut off.
I think about formation of relationship composed of situational
equipment.
The relationship without directly connected element;
I myself live in.
On the screen, Nose breathes out to roll the ash on the floor
He exhales.
He has accomplished Copernican conversion.
I write down words avoiding metaphor .
Although the words themselves become metaphor.
It is complicated.
I shall fade out someday.
Ah, I want to keep on going lightly.
